RogerEbert.com — Licorice Pizza

I could not possibly love “Licorice Pizza” more. I didn’t want it to end, I was so wrapped up in its cozy, wistful spell. And yes, a lot of that comes from the fact that this is my childhood, too — the San Fernando Valley in the ’70s — a place Paul Thomas Anderson has explored vividly before. But this time, he takes all the muscularity of his filmmaking and his affection for high drama as a writer and turns them toward a story that’s gentler and sweeter. And yet, there’s an inescapable undercurrent of danger throughout. My four-star rave of the year’s best film, at RogerEbert.com.

  1. I loved the Master, sort of liked Inherit Vice, liked Phantom Thread more. I am very excited to see this 🙂
