Breakfast All Day Podcast 11/6/20

In an insane and unpredictable year, we’re especially in a state of flux this week as we await the results of the 2020 presidential election. No matter what happens, we’re here for you at Breakfast All Day — and we’re thankful that you’re here for us, as well. Alonso, Matt and I tried to take it a bit easier this week with just a couple of film reviews: the understated, suspenseful Western “Let Him Go” and the trippy, sci-fi thriller “Possessor: Uncut.” We spent the bulk of our time on news — discussing the state of the election, or course, but also Stephen Colbert’s stirring monologue, Sean Connery’s death, Johnny Depp’s departure from the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise and Christopher Nolan’s continuing reaction to the disappointing box office haul of “Tenet.” And over at our Patreon, we recap the latest episodes of “The Mandalorian” on Disney+ and “Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult” on STARZ. Please let us know how you’re doing these days, and thanks for spending some of your time with us.

  1. Hello Christy this is Rebecca from California. I really wanted to contact you on twitter, but your dm was blocked 🙁 (It’s been only a year since I came to America, so my English might be bad. Please understand..)
I really want to become a critic, especially a movie critic. But I don’t know what it takes to be one. Can you give me a piece of advice?

    • Hi Rebecca, and welcome! It’s so different now from when I started 20-plus years ago, but the one thing that’s true is that you should watch everything — keep your mind and your heart open to every kind of movie, even those that seem on the surface like ones you might not ordinarily like. Having a broad base of experiences and perspectives is really helpful. Writing something every day — even a little bit, and not necessarily about film — will keep you sharp. Have fun and good luck!
