The year is winding down but the movies just keep coming here at Breakfast All Day. Matt, Alonso and I review the gorgeous drama “Queen & Slim,” the weird little sci-fi thriller “Little Joe” and “The Aeronauts,” which stars Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne but sadly is not a prequel to “The Theory of Everything.” And over at our Patreon, we discuss the latest episodes of “The Mandalorian,” “Watchmen,” “His Dark Materials” and “The Morning Show.” Grab yourself a cup of hot cocoa on this wintry day and come hang out with us.

  1. Well, I had this whole blast ready to unload and then Christie stole my thunder with her “unless you have . . . ” comment at the end. Thanks, Christie for throwing that in. So, consider this more of an informational and less of a complaint.

Amazon Prime lets you watch a lot of stuff in 4K. So if you have a big 4K TV connected to a good sound system, and a fast internet connection, then the home experience is surprisingly close to the one you get when seeing something on the big screen.

For instance, Amazon Prime is now showing a restored print of “Once Upon a Time in the West”, one of my all-time favorite movies. It looked and sounded sumptuous on my home setup.

Some movies are deeply immersive when experienced in a movie theater auditorium, with the big screen up front, a high end “surround sound” audio system, and an audience.

It sounds like “The Aeronauts” is not one of those movies. Instead, it sounds like it’s an otherwise pedestrian movie that happens to include a few wide shots of the English countryside that look better in a high definition on a big screen.

If Monument Valley looks great on my home setup, and if one of Ennio Morricone’s best scores sounds great, then I think this movie will do just fine.
