Summer is over but we’re here to provide a ray of sunshine with the Breakfast All Day Podcast. This week, it’s just me and Matt — Alonso is away covering the Venice Film Festival — and Matt was nice enough to drive down to see me and play catch-up with some recent movies. We discuss the Gerard Butler action thriller “Angel Has Fallen,” which was No. 1 at the box office last weekend; the charmingly raunchy coming-of-age comedy “Good Boys”; the indie “Brittany Runs a Marathon,” which resonated with both of us in myriad ways; and a new movie this week, “The Fanatic,” starring John Travolta as an obsessed celebrity stalker. It is legitimately the worst movie of the year, yet it truly must be experienced. And over at our Patreon, we discuss a bunch of new trailers including “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” and “Joker.” Come share the long Labor Day weekend with us.

  1. Love the Breakfast All Day podcast. I’m really glad you’re still doing these after What The Flick ended. Keep up the good work!

  2. Christy and Matt, I appreciate you calling out that Travolta’s disability is a needless add-on. I am super tired of actors pretending to be disabled in movies and even more tired of the use of it as a catalyst for violence. The scale is tipped too far in that direction. However, unsurprising given Durst’s track record. Nuance and fresh takes are not his things.

And I’m so excited to see Britney now. Kudos for sharing your challenges, Christy. Happy that sober life is suiting you well!

Send them two tickets to Peanut Butter Falcon! It’s so freaking good and stars an actor who has a disability and isn’t a psychopath!

    • Hi Lyman — we’ve been sort of scattered here at the end of the summer. I liked the Angry Birds sequel quite a bit but I LOVED Hair Love. It’s excellent — it accomplishes so much in terms of storytelling and emotion in such an efficient, compact way. And the ending is so moving. I’m sure it’ll get nominated for the Oscar and it’ll probably even win. What did you think?
