It’s been a while, but all four of us are at the table this week to enjoy a little Breakfast All Day. And it’s a good thing, too, because this is a packed week with a wide variety of movies. Matt, Alonso, Ben and I review “Pokemon Detective Pikachu” (which I highly recommend bringing a 9-year-old with you to see), the con artist comedy “The Hustle,” “Wine Country” with its ridiculously impressive comic cast, Kenneth Branagh’s Shakespeare drama “All is True” and the documentaries “Knock Down the House” and “The Biggest Little Farm.” You don’t have to look far to catch ’em all — we’re right here. Hope you enjoy.

  1. No way “tarot” is pronounced the way Alonso thinks. I thought perhaps because of Alonso’s Spanish heritage that perhaps it is pronounced with the emphasis on the second syllable. Alas, it is not, and the “t” at the end is not silent.

Interesting mix of movie reviews, but they mostly sound a little blah this week. Thanks anyway.

    • My position on this stuff is that you should just decide which way suits your style best and stick with that. Or don’t stick with it, vary it up as you please. Personally I like to say it as TAH-ROT, hard tee at the end. I think it’s misguided to go looking up the most prestigious authority you can to settle it once and for all. Well, let me back track, looking it up in the Cambridge English Dictionary is cool, but if the idea behind that is ‘now our personal freedom can be constrained by a big heavy book’, well I think we should have more fun with language, avoid the prescriptionist bent. Exceptions come when someone clearly is unfamilar with proper pronunciation and will keep embarrassing themselves and grating on your ear until you fill them in.

      • I appreciate your point, but Alonso wants to claim he is the authority on this pronunciation, and he simply is not. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Language is an evolution, but sometimes not for the better.
