Breakfast All Day Podcast 1/4/19

Good morning to you, whatever time of day it is in your world. Alonso, Matt, Ben and I are excited to introduce you to our new incarnation, the Breakfast All Day Podcast. It’s still the four of us (whenever we can arrange our schedules to get in the same room with each other), reviewing films, occasionally discussing movie news and enjoying the same banter we’ve had for the past nine years. For our first episode of the new year, we look back at the best and worst of the old year. We also play catch-up with the Will Ferrell & John C. Reilly comedy “Holmes & Watson,” which Alonso says is terrible, and “Escape Room,” which is shockingly a lot of fun for a January horror movie. And we squeeze in a bit of movie news as Ellen DeGeneres lobbies for Kevin Hart to get his Oscar hosting gig back.

So thanks again for sticking with us. We’ll keep doing this throughout 2019 and beyond, and we’ll be adding more features as we go along. You can find us on social media here:

  1. Ricky Gervais is probably available to host the oscars!
    Now that would be interesting.
I feel like I’ve already seen the lost doggy movie… Homeward Bound, and it did made me cry

  2. sounds AMAZING! super proud of you all, and love the top 10 movies! I will spread the word the best i can 🙂

  3. So great to see you all on YouTube again 🙂

Hey Christy- Happy New Year to you.
Did you ever see my request that I made when you posted your top ten list for 2018?
The best film I saw in 2018 was Cold War- I’m so glad that you loved it too!!

  4. Hey, just popping in to say that you guys are my favorite movie podcast to listen to. I loved watching you guys but I don’t think one even needs to have seen the original show to tell that you guys are longtime friends. Here’s to another great year!

  5. So glad you guys finally get to have a fresh start doing your own thing! One of the highlights of my week.

One thing—the audio is much better on the podcast than on the videos, presumably because you used mic audio for the podcast but the iPhone audio for the video? I’ve had pretty good results on a shoestring budget throwing the video into iMovie and replacing the audio with the mic audio. In my experience it’s been smart enough to sync them up, though no guarantees 🙂 Another cheap alternative would be to also mic the phone.

    Happy 2019!

    • Hey Katie! Good to see you out there. Thanks for listening. Yes, my husband reminds me that we do indeed have a boom mic we can stick on the front of the phone when we record the video portion. We are figuring this out. Thanks for the advice, and for sticking with us!

  6. On Kevin Hart (sorry, commenting as I listen) — he could take a cue from Emma Stone at the globes last night on how to apologize for contributing to the marginalization of minorities: Without hesitation and as often as needed.

As a queer person myself, I’ve generally been perfectly happy to have Ellen as a public face of my people, but in this case, I felt really uncomfortable with the way she seemed to throw her weight behind someone who seems to continue to see himself as a victim rather than actually apologizing and taking corrective action on behalf of the community he damaged.

  7. I can’t wait to hear your reactions to the Golden Globes. It was WILD! Like almost nothing went the way I thought it would.

  8. We love you guys. When I was in college my favourite thing to do when not studying was watching your reviews. Even if I already saw the review a few times before 🙂 Please continue on with this podcast!!!!

  9. I felt the same way about Suspiria. When I first saw it left me scratching my head and feeling very confused, as well as somewhat frustrated.

But I couldn’t shake the movie off. I kept wondering over and over what Guadanino’s intention was, what kind of meaning he was trying to convey within the messiness of it all, how he sought to connect all of the seemingly disjointed pieces.

I reflected on it for days. I am thankful of any movie that transfixes and haunts me to that degree.

Here’s an interesting article on the ending (SPOILER WARNING). And thank you all for continuing!

  10. Love you guys but could you please put time stamps for the start of each review in the description? I don’t always have time to sit through the entire podcast and it would be nice to just skip to the movies that I’m interested in.
