RogerEbert.com — The Front Runner

The Front Runner Movie ReviewThe typically charismatic Hugh Jackman is horribly miscast in “The Front Runner” as Gary Hart, the Colorado senator who was on his way to the Democratic nomination — and probably the presidency — before a sex scandal derailed his career in 1987. Jackman seems too old, too mad and too world-weary to be the idealistic, 46-year-old face of the future. Director Jason Reitman attempts an Altmanesque approach to depicting this pivotal time in American history, when privacy is about to become a thing of the past, but his film lacks both insight and bite. It’s got a great cast, though. My mixed review, at RogerEbert.com.
