It’s a Halloween miracle: Ben Mankiewicz actually joined me and Alonso for the latest What the Flick?! Podcast. (One of these days, all four of us will be in the same place at the same time, I promise.) This week, we talk about the latest incarnation of the horror classic “Halloween,” Paul Dano’s directorial debut “Wildlife,” a rare drama for Melissa McCarthy in “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” and the Netflix drama “22 July,” about the 2011 Norwegian terrorist attack. Also, the Gotham Award nominations are out, so we take a look at this early stop on the lengthy awards season trail. It’s all treats and no tricks, so listen and enjoy.

  1. I check every week for you on Google Podcasts. Can’t wait to be able to download the show and listen to it at work!

  2. Love, love that you all will get to keep doing this, if this is what Alonso teased at the end. I think a longer format suits your reviews better overall, and I hope you can put this together in a video format, as well. Thanks again.

P.S. Christy, I saw “On Chesil Beach” last week and didn’t care for it. The relationship and ending were too pat.

  3. Please add this to Spotify or somewhere that i can walk
Around and listen to them all 🙂
Loved your YouTube so glad you’re back

  4. Could you guys remind me which movie Alonso reviewed where he said something along the lines of “Do you remember at the end of Mystery Science Theatre: Manos the Hands of Fate, they said this movie broke me? Well, this movie broke me!”

  5. Ben is back! I loved hearing his slightly OT story about Robert Wagner. Because of the time constraints you seemed to be under at TYT, I don’t feel Ben would have had time to share that story. And I love hearing stories related to classic Hollywood. I hope wherever the train takes you, we’ll still be fortunate to have these longer form discussions where you all don’t feel so rushed to wrap things up and can share any anecdotes you may have.

    • Yes…I enjoy his random stories about old Hollywood and whatnot. Still very much missing WTF on YouTube. Hope to see you guys do videos again soon.

  6. I posted this previously but because several people have asked, here’s how to get a portable mp3 file of this podcast using a computer.

    1. Right-click on the podcast text and select “View Page Source”.
The source code for this podcast will appear in a separate tab.
    2. Press the F3 button to open search.
    3. Search for mp3.
Search will find the mp3 text, which will be part of a longer link.
    4. Right-click this link, and select “Save link as”.
A Save As window will appear with gibberish in the filename area.
    5. Type over the filename with something meaningful with an mp3 extension, such as WhattheFlick.mp3, and then save to a location that you can easily find, such as Desktop.

Now you have the mp3 file and you can copy it to any portable player for listening at your leisure.

  7. Laurie was a strong character in the first film as well. And they were able to show that without making Laurie a generic tough chick or by making all the men buffoons.

  8. Love the extended reviews by the way through out the years your WTF videos reviews really educated me on knowledge of Movies and also fell in love going to theaters Thank You Ben,Matt,Christy,Alonso I really appreciate the time and effort you guys do this for your listener

  9. It’s a little belated, but commiserations to The Paddington 2 for their final Schmoedown appearance. I was pulling for you, Alonso and Matt! It was a tight match, and that Tarantino caveat was some BS.

  10. I love it that they’re all doing reviews still, but I wish they had time stamps for each review so I could fast forward to a specific one

  11. I have never understood this dislike of Carey Mulligan. I liked her in Drive and An Education. And she is the standout in Wildlife. Her scenes with Ed Oxenbould are impressive
