What the Flick?! Podcast 9/21/18

Image result for assassination nationAlonso and I are here to invite you to join our girl gang on the latest episode of the What the Flick?! Podcast. We review the ultra-stylish, ultra-violent “Assassination Nation,” the latest ambitious, angry Michael Moore documentary “Fahrenheit 11/9,” Eli Roth’s family horror flick “The House With a Clock in Its Walls” and the sprawling and schmaltzy drama “Life Itself,” which isn’t nearly as terrible as we’d hoped it would be. We also talk a bit about the choice of Cary Fukunaga (“Sin Nombre,” “Jane Eyre”) as the latest James Bond director. Listen and enjoy, and thanks so much for sticking with us!

The HTML source code will open in a separate tab.
    2. Press F3 to open the search bar, and type mp3
It will find a link. For example, this week’s is http://christylemire.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/WTF-Podcast-92018.mp3?_=1

A “Enter name to save file to” window will appear with gibberish in the filename area.

  2. I had the unfortunate task of seeing Life Itself last night. The timeline drove me nuts. Did you notice how the Gonzalez family used an iPhone to take pictures on their New York vacation? And that was before Dylan was even born!

  3. Hey Christy, what was your drink container for your water during the podcast?
Thanks you two for a great review. I like so much that you are completely honest and unapologetic with your reviews. It makes your reviews more relevant and useful for folks like me who choose very carefully what to see in the theater.

  4. I’m glad you’re still doing WTF. Ironically, I discovered TYT because of WTF. I’m definitely signing up when you’re up and running. Thanks for all the work, and please keep doing it!

  5. So glad you guys are doing this. I’ve been on the fence with Moore’s film, and after hearing your reviews, I’m now even less likely to see it. What bothers me about Moore is that even though he’s often on point with his pointing out how establishment Dems and corporate corruption have been factors in Trump’s rise, he often skirts around the racism of his base supporters. I understand how difficult it must be for a working class Midwestern white man to look the ugliness that exists within the people he has so much affection for directly in the eyes, but it’s frustrating. If the movie doesn’t address, as you point out Alonzo, the kids in the cages or the demonization of Black Lives Matter, then I’ll pass.

  6. Don’t worry about the sound quality, it’ll come. If you guys recorded on a cup and string I’d still be listening! Love Ya’ll!!

  7. “Listen Liberal” and “What’s the Matter With Kansas” were by Thomas Frank not Thomas Friedman. Very different authors. Names are close, I understand. Thanks for continuing WTF.

  8. I have another option on Chrome. Download Audio Downloader Prime add-on from Chrome store. That will put a music icon top right corner. Press Play on the podcast and click download from drop down menu.

  9. As a German I thought you all only took long Summer holidays but I should have known better, in the US no one has long holidays…
So I was very sad as I discovered that you have been fired by TYT. It is weird for me that a progressive Network dismisses their employees from one day to another without any warning. In Germany even conservatiVe media wouldn’t dare to do that in this way.

I hope you’ll get back to youtube very soon. There is no other movie review show with so much expertise on Youtube or the internet!

  10. Whew took me some time to find this, was sad when the realization kicked in that you stopped the Youtube show but a podcast is totally fine with me, too.
One thing that would improve this format for me by a lot would be simple timestamps for the reviews so I can more easily skip ones that don’t interest me or I don’t want to have spoiled, and after seeing a movie myself I can come back and re-listen to your thoughts.
Does’t have to be fancy or on the second, just keep a timer running on your phone while recording, make a quick note when you go to the next movie and put that in the description. Would be much appreciated.

    Keep it up, guys!

  11. People are saying Moore is being intellectually honest because he “goes after the Left” in this new movie. Moore has always gone after corporate Democrats. People can’t seem to tell the difference between the populist Left(progressives) and Establishment Democrats. The party of Obama and Hillary became Republican in the 90s. The solution isn’t to empower the “Left” to vote against Trump in the mid terms. It should be stop buying into the lesser evil logic.
Obama gave us Trump. Not just because he turned his back on Flint. It’s because of his neo liberal polices that have helped destroy our manufacturing and middle class. Neo liberalism gives us Right wing populism. Had Obama stood up against the banks and fought for a progressive platform we wouldn’t be in this mess. Hope the focus of Moore’s next movie is how the so called Left makes the Trump’s of the world inevitable. Only Left populism can beat Right populism.

  12. Christy how much do you think critics effect the success of a movie(Life Itself)? Because it seems only a small percentage of people even listen to reviews. If it does effect a movie does it depend on the genre?Art films vs escapist entertainment? I know criticism is subjective but generally if most critics hate a movie most people do too. Maybe not. Critics may have higher standards. Do you see a correlation between what critics say and word of mouth?

  13. What is this phenomena coined as the “Manic Pixie Dream girl”? I’m hearing so often lately
Between the options of podcast or not having WTF at all, I choose podcast but will we ever see your faces IRL ever again?

  14. I been enjoying your movie review for many years. Glad that you guys find a new home. Thank you for all the reviews you guys did and please keep up the good work.

  15. Hi!!

when you type the text to the podcast:

maybe type the movies in sequence of conversation + Timestamp

    really enjoying this as usual.

    B

  16. I’m glad that I can continue to hear your conversations about movies, even without getting to see you. You were my favorites on You Tube, I look forward to listening to what you have to say each week, in whatever format you settle on.

  17. So happy that you guys are still doing this show. I rely on you for what movies I should bother to see or not see. I always feel like I’m sitting at the table with you when I listen and I appreciate you so much.

  18. The podcast format definitely brings a more relaxed, conversational element that was not there in the YouTube format. This has definitely grown on me.

  19. Not on twitter or anything but wanted to drop a note that I loved the Youtube channel and thanks for continuing to give us great content, I hope listening directly from the website registers.

  20. Come on christy and the guys, get a cheap camera, film it in your living room if you have to! I miss the youtube channel and seeing you peeps.

  21. Love the show — in any format — and so glad you’re keeping this going.

It would be amazing if this podcast was available through iTunes/Spotify/other podcast apps. Saving to mp3 per the above instructions works OK, but it would be a huge convenience to have the show be available there.

How about having Alonso pull those sweet Maximum Fun-strings, and join up with those folks over there? They already have a bunch of movie-based podcasts, but they’d be fools not to snatch you up.

  22. Thanks for keeping the show going. Found TYT from WTF and sorely missing WTF on youtube. This makes for a good carryover till you guys, hopefully, can get the show back running on video.

  23. Keep up the good work you two! For the record i agree with Alanso, White God is one of the best movies of the decade so far
