RogerEbert.com — The Swan

The Swan Movie Review“The Swan” is a coming-of-age drama that’s equal parts beautiful and brutal, similar to the rugged terrain of northern Iceland where it takes place. I mean, look at that photo — doesn’t it make you want to hop on a plane to Reykjavik right now? The debut feature from writer-director Asa Helga Hjorleifsdottir has a dreamy look about it, but the life lessons its 9-year-old lead character (Grima Valsdottir) learns during a summer on her relatives’ farm are often unromantic. The film may be languid to a fault but it kept surprising me. My RogerEbert.com review.
