It took 20 years of stops and starts but the film version of the YA fantasy favorite “Artemis Fowl” is finally here, and it feels like it’s in a hurry to get it over with already. Kenneth Branagh’s film, about a 12-year-old boy who goes on an adventure in a fairy underworld to rescue his kidnapped father, is a glossy and empty exercise in world-building. There’s lots of exertion on display here but very little magic. My 1 1/2-star review, at RogerEbert.com.
