Extraction First Reviews: Chris Hemsworth Anchors a Brutal, Action ...

Only Chris Hemsworth as a hunky, black-market mercenary named Tyler Rake could pull us out of the morass in which we’ve found ourselves. His Netflix action extravaganza, “Extraction,” is one of several movies we review this week on Breakfast All Day. Alonso, Matt and I also discuss the excellent Apple+ documentary “Beastie Boys Story,” the stylish drama “True History of the Kelly Gang” and a couple of quasi-related documentaries: “Circus of Books” and “The Booksellers.” But before all that, we begin as we always do with an update of coronavirus news. And over at our Patreon, we recap the gripping series finale of “The Plot Against America” as well as the latest episodes of “Westworld” and “Mrs. America.” Hope you’re all safe and well, and we’re happy to have you with us from afar.

Alonso is having trouble getting the hang of it, under the new order. Where anything that resembles a movie nowadays that gets any kind of release. Needs to receive a very enthusiastic thumbs up from all of the critical professionals in the movie journalism area. Alonso will have to work more on that, and practice more on the enthusiasm and motivation. Mom seems to have laid down the rules now, so I guess everyone ‘has got the memo’. Remember your duty to the party now Alonso. Thumbs up. At practically everything. It is a brave new world.

Speaking about the old, old days. There was a live music event journalist here in Ireland named John Waters. I was reminded of Waters and his early career, when listening about the Beastie Boys. Waters is one of these former rebels, who is having great fun right now in his senior years. Throwing his toys out of his pram, and bringing the government in Ireland to the ‘high court’ of the land. In order to protest about his restrictions, and as he explains himself. He is trying to present an alternative narrative. It seems as though, that occupation is a risky one nowadays. Waters has also discovered podcasting, and sometimes in terms of the spoken word. I have noticed why so many people I know who are aged in their seventies now. They used to talk about Waters being ‘a real journalist’. Maybe one of the two or three ‘real journalists’ that ever existed in Ireland.

Waters recently had to say about the new world order on a podcast recently (no one quite throws his toys out of his pram in the way that Waters does). Which is the essential thing about a music band such as the Beastie Boys? Maybe? Waters was present and used to cover a lot of live music performances. Way back in the day.

He claims that now in 2020.

“Whatever that appetite is, in the human person to control other people. And it seems to be real. It has arrived at our door”.

It is kind of like one of those quotations that used to appear on the back covers of novels in bookstores. Attributed to some newspaper, or some expert. Concise, and with a lot of anger and punch. All the best.
