Join us for a spin on this jam-packed week of Breakfast All Day. Matt and I review the thrilling racing drama “Ford v Ferrari,” Elizabeth Banks’ action comedy “Charlie’s Angels,” Shia LaBeouf’s autobiographical and therapeutic “Honey Boy” and “The Report,” a star-studded yet somber drama about the use of torture on terror suspects after 9/11. Matt and Alonso also play catch-up with the earnest, old-fashioned war picture “Midway.” And over at our Patreon, we’ve got more television than you can shake a stick at: recaps of the first two episodes of “The Mandalorian” on Disney+ and the latest episodes of “Watchmen,” “The Morning Show” and “His Dark Materials.” Hop in and hang on.
The Report –
An unclassified “Summary” version of the Feinstein Report was released to the public. I know because I have a PDF of it and I read all 575 pages. But, like the Mueller Report, almost nobody else did. If you are interested the page breakdown goes like this: Cover – 1 page; Forward – 6 pages; Findings and Conclusions – 19 pages; Executive Summary – 499 pages. You can get the idea by reading the first three pars (26 pages total) and skipping the fourth.
People should have read it but they didn’t so the movie is probably a good idea.
Midway –
Haven’t seen the movie but I know a lot about the battle. The whole “the Japanese had better planes at the time” part is totally true. Both the Doolittle raid and the battle of Midway were high risk endeavors. It sounds like the movie did a good job of showing that. And it sounds like the movie is accurate enough and they did a good enough job with it, that it too is worth while. Midway happened before I was born and I’m in my 70’s. This format (a movie) is probably the best way to introduce a subject like this to younger people, especially the post 9/11 generation.
So thanks for another great job.
