Breakfast All Day Podcast 2/7/19
Everything is cool when you’re part of a team, especially when that team is the Breakfast All Day Podcast. For the second week in a row, Alonso, Ben, Matt and I all made it to the table. We talk about the high-energy “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part,” the annual Liam Neesoning with “Cold Pursuit” (as well as Neeson’s off-screen troubles), the gender-flipping remake “What Men Want” and the latest episode of “True Detective.” Alonso and I also do a quick, separate review of “Everybody Knows,” an unusual Spanish-language drama from Iranian auteur Asghar Farhadi. Our plate is full yet again, so dig in with us and enjoy.
Can Matt please for the love of God stop saying well it’s not a masterpiece or it wasn’t genius but. If it is a masterpiece say so, if not then don’t say that. Nobody is assuming you think it’s genius just because you liked it. You don’t need to keep doing that.
Completely agree on the banana in the LEGO movie sequel; it felt like it belonged in a different, far less clever movie. That being said, as much as I loved the original, I think I’m in the minority in enjoying the sequel even more. To me, the songs were funnier (especially the “Not Evil” one), the story was less reliant on the novelty aspect of the original, and the emotional heft was heftier. I got a little choked up in this one – not gonna lie. Like “Inside Out” teaching kids that it’s okay to be sad and to not be ashamed of it, teaching kids that everything isn’t always awesome and what matters is how we work together to make it better is a lovely message. Either way, both movies are wonderful, no matter which is preferred. Great reviews as always. Thanks to the crew for taking time to do them for us!
Will you guys review the new horror movie The Prodigy?
Do you suppose that Neeson said what he said to get out of doing publicity for the movie? That, too would be questionable.
