Disney’s “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” is an enormous, expensive lump of coal, as complicated and convoluted as its title. It’s so garish and misguided, it reminded me of “Cloud Atlas” at times. If you’re going to see it, just go for the costumes and the brief, beautiful snippets of ballet from the great Misty Copeland and Sergei Polunin. My 1 1/2-star review, at RogerEbert.com.
I think this movie is only likely to be a hit among little girls whose idea of a wonderful movie is one with pretty dresses and lots of pink. Those who pay attention to the mess of a storyline and lack of an actual Nutcracker will more likely be left wondering if they even saw the right movie.
