RogerEbert.com — After Tiller

After Tiller Movie ReviewThe documentary “After Tiller” takes the politically divisive, emotionally charged issue of late-term abortions and portrays it with grace, understatement and humanity. It is sure to piss people off. My review for RogerEbert.com.

  1. Read your thoughtful review yesterday. Hit me so hard I had to step away, digest then mull over my feelings about the subject matter.

I grew up during a time when women were dilligently fighting for their rights for legal abortions. Pre-internet. My female classmates, friends and acquaintances . . . many believed abortion was wrong, taboo until they found themselves having to decide between keeping an unplanned baby, boldly accepting condemnation, adoption or abortion. A crazy time to be fertile, sexually curious with little to no contraception guidance with the weight of society obliterating your dreams for college and career independence if you’re a unwed, teen mother. (See Natalie Wood’s LOVE WITH THE PROPER STRANGER).

To my understanding and recollection, late term abortions are reserved for rape, incest, complicated pregnancies. How can anyone other than the mother make that decision, and in this age of advanced science and technology, don’t we understand the need for such an option.

    Thank God times have changed?
