It’s the chewing-gum-and-rubber-bands edition of What the Flick?! as Alonso discusses the “Sin City” sequel and I pretend to be Matt Atchity. We do our best here, but late August is a bitch.
I really wanted to love “Muppets Most Wanted.” It’s got a lot of funny individual bits and jokes and celebrity cameos, but the story just isn’t there, especially compared to the most recent Muppet movie. As Matt puts it here, “It’s fine, it just isn’t great.”
Playing namby-pamby isn’t Sam Rockwell’s strong suit. He’s at his best playing the wild card, the troublemaker, the most charming rogue. Here, he’s stuck as a put-upon pharmacist in this dark romantic comedy opposite Olivia Wilde as the boozy trophy wife who serves as his guide to debauchery. My RogerEbert.com review.
