What the Flick?! — Ride Along

Matt and I didn’t even have to use our AKs to review the Ice Cube-Kevin Hart mismatched-buddy cop comedy. But we did blast a few holes in it nonetheless.

What the Flick?! — Worst of 2013

Many things suck. Here are three of them. Ben, Alonso and I pick the worst films of 2013.

What the Flick?! — Best of 2013

Ben, Alonso and I choose our favorite movies from 2013. You all know that my No. 1 pick is: “Gravity.” But what did the guys select? The anticipation is agonizing, isn’t it?

What the Flick?! — Interior. Leather Bar.

James Franco “re-enacts” 40 minutes of cut footage from the 1980 drama “Cruising,” in which Al Pacino starred as an undercover cop exploring New York’s gay-bar scene, in his pseudo-documentary “Interior. Leather Bar.” Alonso and I appreciated this as an ambitious experiment.

What the Flick?! — Lone Survivor

Peter Berg’s action picture “Lone Survivor,” based on the true story of a Navy SEAL who narrowly lived through a botched mission in Afghanistan, is intense and intimate and beautifully shot. Ben, Alonso and I don’t dispute that. But we do have differing theories as to whether it’s propaganda or an anti-war statement. I’m curious to hear what you guys think.

What the Flick?! — American Hustle

We all had a complete blast at “American Hustle,” one of the year’s best films and one that will appear very high on both Alonso’s and my top 10 lists.

What the Flick?! — The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

Matt is a Tolkien purist, so he really disliked the second of Peter Jackson’s three films based on “The Hobbit.” I admittedly haven’t read any of these books and am not a fan of the films, so I was surprised at how much I enjoyed myself. We had a fun little debate.

What the Flick?! — Saving Mr. Banks

It’s an infomercial by Disney, for Disney, about Disney. Alonso, Matt, Ben and I review the cheery and self-congratulatory “Saving Mr. Banks,” which is (knda-sorta) about the making of “Mary Poppins.”

What the Flick?! — Some Velvet Morning

Alonso and I marvel at the verbal sparring of Stanley Tucci and Alice Eve in Neil LaBute’s biting and twisty “Some Velvet Morning.”

What the Flick?! — Christmas movies

Matt and I help Alonso pimp out his book, “Have Yourself a Movie Little Christmas,” and discuss our most-favorite and least-favorite holiday films.
